Tipped workers in Massachusetts make a minimum wage of only $5.55 an hour compared to the state standard minimum wage of $13.50 an hour. This unequal wage system makes workplaces less equitable and less safe. But we have a chance to end this injustice!
Currently there is a bill in the statehouse to eliminate tipped subminimum wage. The bill to create One Fair Wage will have a hearing on October 19th and lawmakers need to hear from the Jewish community that we stand united for economic justice. Join us on zoom for a workshop on how to prepare testimony for the bill's hearing so that your voice is heard. We will go over what makes testimony powerful and write, edit, and practice our testimony together. Hearing testimony is a strong way our community can make a difference in this fight!
Excited to join the fight for One Fair Wage? Our next step is speaking directly with lawmakers about this critical bill to eliminate tipped sub-minimum wage. Join us for a training on how to set up meetings with and talk to legislators about economic justice.

Join us during the Kavod retreat for a workshop on One Fair Wage!
We are excited and honored to be part of this year’s Kavod community retreat. We will be leading a workshop 5:30-6:30 on Saturday.
In Massachusetts, tipped workers make only $5.55 an hour compared to the standard minimum wage of $13.50 an hour. Join us to learn about how this two-tiered wage system was created and what we can do to end it. The Jewish Labor Committee has been working with Kavod on the One Fair Wage campaign to end tipped subminimum wage and support workers in creating safer, less discriminatory workplaces through creating fair wages. In this workshop, we'll not only discuss the campaign, but take action on it! Come ready to fight for economic justice!
Join us for a worker power action hour! We'll support service workers who currently rely on tips in their fight for a living wage and a Kavod member organizing to form a union at her workplace.

Across Massachusetts, service workers are calling for an end to the tipped sub-minimum wage that perpetuates racial and gender inequality, keeps people in poverty, and creates unsafe working conditions. Tipped workers make 5.55/hr, well below the MA minimum wage of 13.50, and even further below a livable wage. In the MA restaurant industry, Black women service workers are paid almost $8 less per hour than white men in the same position. Relying on tips also means servers have to endure racist and sexist harassment, or risk losing their wages.
Join us as we call on our communities and elected officials to bring an end to this injustice!
Governor Charlie Baker has announced a committee to explore reopening MA but the committee members are half corporate executives and only three are public health officials. There are no workers or labor leaders on this advisory committee.
We cannot leave the decisions around opening up businesses to CEOs. Join us to learn more about this issue and to circulate this petition letting Gov. Baker know that he must listen to workers and public health experts to make reopening safe and just.
